Founded in 1905, the Australian Open is one of the most prestigious sporting events on the calendar in the southern hemisphere. It is the first Grand Slam of the calendar year, always kicking things off in style. The Australian Open in fact is the most well attended of the four Grand Slams, routinely outselling Wimbledon, the US Open and the French Open, respectively.
