Australian Open history

The Australian open has a rich history which goes back to 1905, when it was called the Australasian Championships. The tournament has come a long way, with it now being one of the biggest sporting events in the Southern Hemisphere. In fact, it is even the most well attended of the four Grand Slams, with more people going to the Melbourne event than is the case at the US Open, French Open and Wimbledon respectively.
